Chickweed is a common herb--often considered a weed--that grows in the world's temperate regions. It has a long growing season and its pollen is a common cause of springtime allergies. It provides one of the few sources of fresh seed for birds in the winter, and can be used as a salad herb and a cooked vegetable. In herbology it is used primarily to support the urinary system. Some use it to provide nutrients that must be present for the body's metabolism-balancing functions. It is mild in nature and contains vitamins A and C, some B vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.
